Will it fit in the pot?
Pot and slow-cooker capacities are sold in litres in most of the world and in quarts in the US. A soup recipe for 12 cups needs 2.8 litres of liquid plus room for the solids and for it to simmer without boiling over — a 4- to 5-litre pot, not a 3-litre one.
A quart is almost a litre
Four US cups make a quart, 0.946 L. That near-match is why US recipes and metric cartons coexist so easily for liquids: a 1 L carton of stock covers a "1 quart" recipe with 54 mL to spare.
