How many cups in a liter?
cups = L × 4.2268

- 1 L = 4.23 cups
- 1.5 L = 6.34 cups
- 2 L = 8.45 cups
- 3 L = 12.7 cups
With a 250 mL metric cup the answer is exactly 4 per litre — the main reason metric-cup countries chose that size.
Water goals: "8 glasses" is about 2 litres
The familiar advice of eight 8-ounce glasses a day adds up to 64 fl oz, or 1.89 litres. A 2-litre water bottle is 8.45 cups. The US National Academies' reference for total water intake is higher, but it includes the water in food, not just drinks.
Bottles and pitchers
A 2-litre soda bottle pours about eight 8 oz servings. A standard 1.5 L wine magnum is 6⅓ cups. A blender jug marked 1.75 L holds about 7½ cups — useful when a smoothie recipe is written in cups.
